Council on Aging Meeting Minutes 4/13/16
                        Monterey Council on Aging
                        Minutes of April13, 2016
The meeting opened at 10am.  Present were N. Champigney, R. Champigney, K. Purcell and J. Rodriguez.  Also present  were Kelly Tryon and Carol Edelman.  The minutes of March 23rd were approved with a spelling correction.
K. Tryon came to discuss the Chair Yoga exercise program which is funded in full by the Park Commission.  She give a short description of that commission’s goals (beach, ball field, kayaks) and a query if the yoga exercise can be on CoA’s budget. The annual cost of $3,500. would have a very heavy impact on the CoA budget.  We’ll review options and follow up with K.T.
C. Edelman shared her interest in aging issues on a personal and family level  Her nomination for the Select Board has increased that interest.  She is serving on the county Active Aging Committee.
Events – The trip to Hill-stead Museum has been confirmed and we agreed to book lunch at Wood-n-Tap Restaurant.  SBETC van is booked ($210.) but likely we’ll need another since 10 people have already expressed interest.    -  Pittsfield Suns ballgame is confirmed for Sunday, July 17th.  There will be a picnic under the tent at 4 pm, then seats in the grandstand for a 5 pm start. Theme: Star Wars.  We expect 25 or more since that was the number last year and it was a hit.   – Health Fair will be held in August when Fire Department events are over.  The June 8th meeting will focus on that.  -  Another Balance class will be offered from April 25 thru May 23rd.
Outreach Grant   - Monterey and Gr. Barrington will share a three year grant from MA Elder Affairs with allocation according to population.  So far that looks like !0% and 90%.  Therefore Monterey may have access to $835. this current FY,  $950.  for FY18 and $1,100. for FY 19. Funds and reimbursement will be through G.B.  A job description has been done, laptop ordered but the outreach position has not been posted yet.
Friday, April 22nd, 9 am to noon, the MA Office of Elder Affairs is giving a training workshop for Council board members in Pittsfield. All present members will attend.
New Business – It was agreed to invite speakers one meeting a month to present information on benefits and services available to seniors.  Seniors Helping Seniors will come in May.
